Future Ready: Succession Planning and Board Continuity
Strong boards don’t wait for someone to retire, resign, or leave unexpectedly before they think about succession. They plan ahead for who leads the cooperative next. This session treats succession planning as ongoing governance work, not a scramble to fill a seat after it opens. Directors will look at how to retain board knowledge, make room for new people, grow existing leaders, and prepare for changes at both the board and executive levels.
In this session, you will work on how to:
- Determine the knowledge, experience, and leadership the cooperative will need in the years ahead.
- Strengthen how the board recruits, onboards, and develops directors.
- Build succession practices that cover both the transitions you plan for and the ones you don’t.
